Just be thankful

Thanksgiving is almost here. It seems we tend to skip from Halloween and go right to Christmas. Retail stores are loading up with all the festive décor. I realize many people think of Thanksgiving as an obligatory family gathering with tons of food. Most of us don’t cook that much food in a given week and now we are stressing over doing it all in one day.
I don’t do that anymore. It eliminates so much stress when you realize “its just a dinner.” It doesn’t have to be a Martha Stewart spread unless you want it that way. Isn’t the point to take a minute and be thankful? You can buy a rotisserie chicken and be just as thankful if you don’t want to cook a
20 lb turkey.
Surround yourself with loved ones and enjoy the day. If you are going through chemo often times everything has a metallic taste. Eat to nourish your body and have loved ones around to nourish your soul. Cancer is awful; no dancing
around it. However: if you got up and out of bed, be thankful.
If you know someone who is sick or struggling and you are cooking and baking, why not send something over to that family? A pumpkin pie can mean a lot to  someone who is a caregiver with little time to bake.
The news is full of negative stories. So many people arguing and complaining about anything and everything. Cancer and illness don’t care about politics, borders or taxes. I wish the news would spotlight more positive stories. Random acts of kindness, lots of people do them we just never hear about it. If you know someone who is struggling, chances are they won’t ask for help. Do it on your own just because you can. I still miss a big part of my independence because I can’t do a lot of things I used to. Be thankful if you are healthy and consider a small random act of kindness for someone.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving whether you have a formal one or pizza and a movie! Do what makes you happy and be thankful no matter what.

Sincerely,
Sally
